Please send us any photos you can of the work area, the ceiling from about 4' away.

Note: we will be shooting video on your job site, so we need to have no music playing during that time, and no really loud noises.  We try not to film anything personal and will edit out anything such as house addresses etc before releasing our video online.

What we do during this process-
  • We create a walking path to get out of the work area as best as we can, but some popcorn will be tracked out.  We wear shoe covers and/or swap out dirty shoes for clean as we leave the work area. We try to clean up anything major with a vacuum, brooms etc at the end of each day and do a thorough cleaning at the end.

  • We first cover all walls, ceilings and furniture with visqueen plastic, sealing off rooms that we aren't working on as best as possible.  If you need access we can install zipper doors to the rooms.  We will need access to one bathroom, as well as running water from a spigot etc.

  • We remove anything on the ceiling such as ceiling fans, lights etc.  Sometimes we have to just mask them off if they are really difficult to remove.

  • We then remove the popcorn by a couple of possible methods.  Most often we wet the ceiling with water and scrape it off.  It then dries overnight before we come in and roll up the 1st layer of plastic, and haul it off.  We may also sand it off if it's never been painted or lightly painted.

  • Once the ceiling is totally dry, (usually overnight but may take longer in some instances) we sand the ceiling to remove the residual carrier mud which can greatly affect the adhesion of the next layer of mud and paint.  Companies that don't do this are taking shortcuts and will cause you problems down the road.

  • Next we repair any damage such as cracks which are often hidden in the popcorn texture, popped nails and screws, and we re-coat any joints we feel won't cover well enough as is.  Most often we refinish 90% off all the joints to ensure they are as flat and hidden as possible.

  • We then apply your desired texture, or finish it for a level 5 smooth finish.

  • Once that has dried which can take overnight or longer, we then apply 1 coat of drywall primer and allow that to dry properly, followed by 2 coats of paint.  This can take 2 days to complete.

  • We then remove the masking and begin cleanup and reinstallation of lights etc.

  • Often there will be minor damage to the walls from the moisture in a few areas.  We do a simple touch up to those areas including touch up paint.

  • Final cleaning will involve vacuuming, dusting and cleaning up any noticeable debris, dust etc.

Due to variables we can't predict, if there are a lot of damaged areas on the walls, there may be extra charges.

We had some ceiling work done that included cutting out some drywall and replacing it and matching the popcorn (small) texturing in several areas. That is a really messy job and very time consuming. When the job was done the ceiling looked great and the mess was completely gone. That was the first job I have had done by Mr Patch Drywall. If I ever need any more drywall repaired, I will call them again. They are courteous, friendly, pleasant to deal with and show up when they say they will. I can't ask for more.
